On Saturday 31st July 2010 Patrizia Garbarino passed away. We all miss her resolution, her smile, her extraordinary professionalism and human values. Her memory will always be with us and we are proud that our law firm, that she founded with great enthusiasm and courage, still brings her name. She was born in Torriglia (Genova) on 16-09-1953. She married with Roberto and she was the proud mother of Gianluca. Graduated in Law at Genoa University with dissertation on “Liability arising out of vessels collision”, “The running down clause” (1977). Supervisor Professor Sergio Ferrarini. Degree evaluation: 110/110. She was one of founding partners of the Garbarino Vergani Law Firm. She was admitted to the Italian Bar in 1985.
She frequently travelled to England where she made several professional training internships in English law firms as well as several insurance professional training internship at the West of England Protection & Indemnity Association, dealing with shipping liability insurance.
She was in charge as head of the legal office of various Insurance brokers from 1977 up to 1985.
She started her legal career with Ferrarini Ferraro Law firm in1985 up to 1994.
Due to a serious illness she reduced her activity since 2007 and she then left the legal office bearing her name.
Since 1994 she was senior partner of the firm. She was also Counsellor of the Department of Transport and Navigation from September 1997 up to October 1999. She was directly involved in the most significant reforms of the maritime sector, including the introduction of the International Registry (Registro bis) and the major reform in cabotage. She was one of the leading promoters for the registration under Italian flag of cruise vessels.
We remember her, together with all those who have known and have appreciated her professional and human qualities and we do remember the light of her smile.
